This teleconference will teach you how the recent health care act will affect seniors and persons with disabilities. President Obama signed into law, in March of this year, the Patient Protection and Affordability Act of 2010 and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010. These together are referred to as the Affordability Care Act. This act makes changes to Medicaid and Medicare which includes payment structure and the delivery system. It extends the life of the Part A trust fund by 12 years and strengthens Medicare guarantee benefits. These changes go in effect over a period of years. All the changes do not have direct significance under elder law, but many changes do affect older people and people with disabilities. Although it is necessary to discuss some of the general changes in the law, emphasis will be on elder law matters.
